A couple of months ago, Sean “Puffy” Combs, a.k.a. “P. Diddy,” a.k.a “Diddy” started marketing the release of his blog at www.diddyblog.com. I’ve always been a big fan of Diddy simply because I think he’s a marketing genius. Yeah, he’s made a lot of money as a rapper and producer, but in order to continue having the success he’s had beyond rap, he’s had to be a little creative. The Diddy Blog is just the latest example of this. I’m sure he had some help from a marketing agency but I don’t doubt he also had a major influence in how to roll it out. Two months ago he simply had this video posted on his blog website:
www.diddyblog.com from Diddy Blog on Vimeo.
If you go to his website now, the video is no longer up and he simply has a countdown clock with a black and white video of Muhammad Ali training.
Now, I’m by no means comparing myself to Diddy, but as I launch my blog in a couple of days on my 30th birthday I’ve been thinking about one question that I get asked constantly about my blog, “what’s it going to be about?”
I usually don’t give a straight answer because otherwise, why would you visit when I launch it? I’m no marketing genius but I do think marketing can be fun. I guess I got one thing right when I simply created a subscription page with the launch date because Diddy’s blog has left me with the same question about his blog that I get asked about mine. “What the hell is this blog going to be about?”
