In January I said I was going to blog more and talk less. It turns out that I’ve done the opposite. My strategy was to just write a little whenever I had down time but as it turns out, I’d rather watch TV. Say what you will about TV, if you want insight into what the majority of America is talking about (looking at you political campaigns) then you have to watch reality TV and sitcoms. And as much as I like them, I’m not talking about Frontline or CBS News Sunday Morning. I’m talking about The Bachelor, How I Met Your Mother, Up All Night, Real Housewives of Atlanta, …I could go on. Knowing how much I love TV, my friend and fellow digital strategist Laura Woods told me about Get Glue.

Get Glue is a social networking site for TV,  Movies, Music, and pretty much anything you’re thinking about. I’m not sure that it’s ever going to be “the next Foursquare or Pinterest”, but they get it. If anything, it will probably get bought out by Facebook for their data, which is probably they’re goal anyway. TV networks are chomping on the bit to see what people are saying about their shows on Twitter by pushing hash tags and they definitely have rich insights with Facebook’s “talking about” this stat. However, they shouldn’t discount Get Glue. With stats on “Check-ins” combined with a friend stream, a conversation stream, programming guide, trending list, and discounts on fan merchandise, it’s safe to say that they’re on to something. Of course they also integrate Facebook and Twitter so that you can push your check-ins out to those networks. It’s definitely a niche social networking site but it will be interesting to see how TV and movie production companies respond to it.

So I guess you could say I’ve actually been doing quite a bit of micro-blogging about TV lately…just not on Twitter or Facebook.
